Call for Participation – 2nd Future Actuarial Research Workshop
"Looking FAR ahead in actuarial science." on March 17-19, 2027 in Reisensburg Castle near Ulm, Germany
The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Versicherungs- und Finanzmathematik e.V. (DGVFM; German Society for Insurance and Financial Mathematics) is pleased to announce the second Future Actuarial Research Workshop.
Organized by the DGVFM Research & Transfer Committee, the workshop aims to foster a strong, sustainable, and internationally connected community of early-career researchers in actuarial science. Participants will have the opportunity to present their work, receive detailed feedback from experienced academics, and exchange ideas with junior and senior researchers in an informal setting.
1. Senior researchers
The workshop will include contributions from the following senior researchers:
An Chen, Corina Constantinescu, Ralf Korn, Alfred Müller, Matthias Scherer, Maren Schmeck, and Ruodu Wang.
They will present recent research developments and provide feedback on the work of junior participants. In addition, Corina Constantinescu and Ruodu Wang will lead a career session in which they will share their professional experiences, reflect on their paths toward becoming professors, and offer advice to the next generation of actuarial researchers.
2. Who can apply?
We welcome applications from early-career researchers who are:
pursuing a doctorate in actuarial science or a closely related field; or
engaged in postdoctoral research in actuarial science or a closely related field.
Applications from researchers based outside Germany are also encouraged.
Because accommodation at Reisensburg Castle is limited, the workshop can host a maximum of 25 early-career researchers.
3. Two Presentation formats
Paper presentations: For doctoral and postdoctoral researchers who have obtained initial results and can present a working paper. Each session will last approximately 30 minutes, including discussion.
Mini presentations: For PhD students at an early stage who would like to present a research idea or research plan but are not yet ready to report complete results. Each presentation will last approximately 8 minutes, followed by brief feedback.
Applicants should indicate which format they are applying for.
4. Submission requirements
Please submit an extended abstract of approximately one to two pages. It should:
explain the motivation for the project;
formulate the research question;
identify the contribution to the literature;
describe the methodology;
summarize the available or expected results; and
the preferred presentation format.
Applicants accepted for a paper presentation must submit a discussion-ready draft of their paper by January 31, 2027, allowing sufficient time for the senior researchers and other participants to prepare constructive feedback.
5. Application and selection
Please send your application by email to: verena.reiter@aktuar.de
Application deadline: October 31, 2026. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis according to their academic quality, fit with the workshop, and potential to benefit from discussion. As places are limited, suitable applications received earlier may be given priority. Early submission is therefore strongly encouraged.
Applicants will be informed of the outcome as soon as possible and no later than: November 30, 2026
Deadline for discussion-ready papers: January 31, 2027
6. Costs
Accommodation at Reisensburg Castle and catering during the workshop will be provided and covered by the DGVFM. Participants are responsible for their own travel expenses.
We look forward to welcoming young actuarial researchers from Germany and around the world to Reisensburg in March 2027.
